Fresh off of his performance as The Joker in Suicide Squad, actor Jared Leto has joined the cast for the sequel to Blade Runner, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

Leto also performs as a musician and singer in American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars and has won an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his performance in 2013’s Dallas Buyers Club.

Blade Runner 2 will also star Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright and Ana de Armas. Denis Villeneuve is directing the Alcon Entertainment project, which is slated to release on October 6, 2017 via Warner Bros. Alcon acquired the film, television and ancillary franchise rights to Blade Runner back in 2011 from producers Bud Yorkin and Cynthia Sikes, both of whom will be producing the sequel too.

According to Variety, film-maker Ridley Scott — who directed the original Blade Runner — will be the executive producer for the sequel.

Blade Runner 2 is set several decades after the original 1982 film, with Ford reprising his role as Rick Deckard. It has been written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green and succeeds the initial story by Fancer and David Peoples, based on Philip Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.
