Unfair: Govt urged to withdraw hike in royalty

SWABI:
The provincial government has been urged to withdraw the 100% increase in royalty of Tarko Hill in Swabi. The request has been put forward by Marbles Mines Labour Association, Swabi during a news conference in Swabi. Representatives from the association pressed the government to take action as mining is the only source of income for 3,000 people. “The government fixed Rs30 per tonne as royalty in Tarko Hills in 2014,” one of the representatives said. “However, the government revised the royalty by 100% after four months. Due to the interference by K-P Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser, the royalty was changed to the original rates. However, the royalty has once again increased to Rs60 per tonnes.”
