Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday chaired a high-level security meeting in Islamabad to review the worsening situation along the Line of Control (LoC) in wake of unprovoked firing by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) personnel on Independence Day.
Apart from the LoC situation, those present discussed the implementation of the National Action Plan (NAP), restoration of Protection of Pakistan Act (PoPA) and funding for counter-terrorism operations in the aftermath of Quetta carnage, sources told The Express Tribune.
Army chief General Raheel Sharif, ISI DG Lt-Gen Rizwan Akhtar, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Prime Minister’s National Security Adviser Lt-Gen Nasser Janjua and other senior military and government officials attended the meeting.
According to Express News, National Security Adviser Nasser Janjua will head a task force constituted to monitor the NAP's implementation. It was also decided on the occasion to constitute 29 wings of civil armed forces to facilitate the nationwide implementation of the NAP.

This is the second such meeting in less than a week’s time after over 70 people were killed earlier this month in an attack on a government hospital in Quetta.
Last week, the premier had constituted a high-powered task force to monitor NAP’s progress after he chaired a similar high-level meeting in the federal capital. The participants arrived at a consensus that there was immediate need to inject fresh impetus into what is generally being seen as a faltering counterterrorism plan.
The meeting reaffirmed the national resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism nationwide. It was also stressed that intelligence agencies performed a vital role in guaranteeing national security and safeguarding national interests for which they would be provided all necessary resources and support.
