PM Nawaz calls for national unity to tackle terrorism
Premier assures the NA that security agencies are working day and night to purge the country of militancy
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that only national unity can be a befitting response to all types of terrorists who are trying to create uncertainty in the country.
“Today I am sad at the loss of innocent lives in a terrorist incident which occurred in Quetta," he said while addressing the National Assembly on Wednesday. "Only our unity can be a befitting response to the evil forces."
At least 70 people, nearly half of them lawyers, were killed and more than a hundred wounded in a suicide attack targeting mourners gathered at a state-run hospital, on Monday morning.
Quetta weeps again
Nawaz assured the government will eliminate the country from terrorism, adding the security agencies were working day and night to defeat extremism.
The premier reiterated that the Quetta attack was meant to disrupt the success of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in Balochistan.
Meanwhile, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar also spoke on the occasion.
“Before we came to the power, there used to be 5-10 attacks on an average," he said.
