Shaikh tribe protests murder of two clansmen

Members of the Shaikh tribe organise protest against alleged murder by members of the Janwri tribe.

SUKKUR:
Members of the Shaikh tribe organised a protest sit-in at the Kandhra-Rohri road, burning tyres and blocking traffic for over two hours on Tuesday. They were protesting against the alleged murder of two of their tribesmen by members of the Janwri tribe.

Gulzar Shaikh and his cousin, Riaz Shaikh, were on their way to Lashkari Shaikh village on Monday night, when a group of men ambushed and shot them dead near Roshanabad. Police sent the bodies to the Taluka hospital for an autopsy and later handed them over to their family.

Blaming Janwri men for the murder, protesters shouted slogans against the police for failing to protect them. Rohri SPO Mushtaq Shah assured that the police would soon arrest the suspects, convincing protest leaders to end the demonstration. The Kandhra police registered a case against 21 Janwri men.
