AIOU launches six courses in farm sector

The courses are aimed at enabling the people of rural areas to earn their livelihood, says VC Dr Shahid Siddiqui

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has launched short-term courses to promote skill and knowledge about agriculture sector, says a press release.

The last date for admissions for the courses is September 5, it says.  The courses relate to plant protection, oilseeds crop production, farm machinery, dairy farming, poultry farming, ‘jadeed zara’at’ (modern agriculture) improved methods of fruit production, home and farm operational management and farm income-generating skills.

The courses are aimed at enabling the people of rural areas to earn their livelihood, said Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Shahid Siddiqui.

The curriculum about these courses was being updated to equip their students with latest techniques and methods in the field of agriculture. “We are laying greater focus on the socio-economic needs of the society,” he added.

Besides these programmes, the admissions of ‘Postgraduate Diploma’ in five diverse disciplines — gender and women studies, human resource management, for dieticians and nutrition for physicians -- are also open.

Associate degree in commerce has also been introduced in nine different disciplines. These specialisations are accounting and finance, banking and finance, hospitality management, hotel management, human resource management, IT-management, marketing management and tourism management. The last date for the admission in these programmes is 5th September.

Dr Siddiqui hoped that the people of rural areas will take advantage of the university’s academic support.
