RAWALPINDI/ISLAMABAD: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds that began in the early hours of Wednesday created problems for the residents of twin cities and the adjoining areas.

The rain brought respite from heat for all, except for those living in less-developed localities of the twin cities.

In Rawalpindi, a man was killed and five others were injured in separate rain-related incidents.

Roof of a poultry farm collapsed in the 17-meel area in Rawat, which left a man dead and two others injured.

The victim was identified as Naeem and the injured as Ali and Adnan.

Rescue sources said that the three were sleeping in a corner of the poultry farm when its roof caved-in due to the heavy rain that started at 1am and continued till 9am.

In a separate incident, at least three passengers including the driver of a Mansehra-bound bus were injured after a tree fell on the vehicle in the Latifabad area in Rawat on Wednesday morning.

Police said that the bus was passing through the area when a tree, uprooted by a strong wind, fell on the bus, breaking its windshield and injuring three including the driver, identified as Aslam, and the conductor, identified as Shahzad.

Meanwhile, several low-lying areas in Rawalpindi were inundated by rainwater.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) Spokesperson, Umer Farooq, said that about 70 millimeter rain was recorded in the six hours from 1:30am to 06:30am, in the garrison city.

He said Leh flowed at 10 feet at New Katarian and 11 feet at Ganjmandi.

A boundary wall of Viqarun Nisa College for Women on Tipu Road collapsed, due to heavy rain.

Furthermore, the rain resulted in the collapse of a boundary wall of Adiala jail.

There were also reports about flooding in Soan River, which consequently resulted in land sliding in Adiala Village that damaged several houses.

Meanwhile, in Islamabad, rain water pooled in various parts of the city, especially in the rural areas.

Several roads, including a portion of Lehtrar Road located near Tramri Chowk, were flooded with water.

On one hand, rain provided respite from hot weather while on other hand; the downpour disturbed normal life in the rural areas of the capital.

The district administration has already issued flood warnings in the areas located near Korang and Soan rivers.

The banners displayed outside local mosques carry a message for the residents of the areas to take precautionary measure owing to expected floods. Despite issuing flood warning, the broken banks of the streams have yet to be repaired.
