Careem offers free WiFi service to customers during rides

App-based car booking service will also provide as much as 35% discount to Telenor customers on their first ride

Careem, the app-based car booking service, is offering free WiFi service to its customers.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the car service announced that its customers will be able to enjoy free WiFi service during their ride. The WiFi service will be provided by Telenor as part of a recently signed deal between Careem and the Norwegian telecom giant.

Under the agreement, Careem will also provide as much as 35 per cent discount to Telenor customers on their first ride. As part of the deal, captains of the vehicle will also enjoy special data packages from Telenor Pakistan.

The agreement was signed by Careem MD Pakistan Junaid Iqbal and CMO Telenor Pakistan Irfan Wahab Khan.

Careem declares $100m investment in R&D

Careem currently operates in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, in addition to 24 international cities across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Earlier this month, in an attempt to expand its footprint in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, Careem announced an investment of $100 million in research and development for Pakistan and the UAE.

The car service intends to open its R&D centres in Egypt and Germany, but one element of the expansion is choosing Pakistan to expand its engineering team. The additional engineers will join Careem team in Pakistan from VentureDive.
