While governments had been warning how the viral game could land you in serious trouble, a teenager has been killed in what is believed to be the first death as a result of Pokemon Go.

Jerson Lopez De Leon, 18, from Guatemala died after he was shot while playing the game with cousin Daniel Moises Picen, 17, reported the Mirror.

The incident occured when they decided to break into a house in Chiquimula in order to catch a Pokemon.

Leon died on the spot while his cousin was badly hurt.

Police said it wasn't clear why the 18-year-old was killed, and are looking for a van seen fleeing the scene shortly after the incident.

Earlier this week, people playing Pokemon Go in Bosnia were urged to avoid areas littered with unexploded mines left over from the 1990s conflict.
