Tragic: Five die in road accidents

Those injured were taken to Alipur THQ Hospital and Bahawal Victoria Hospital for treatment

BAHAWALPUR/MULTAN: Five people, including a child, died in road accidents near Uch Sharif and Gucharwali Bridge on Sunday. Seven people were critically injured and were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Police said nine members of a family from Lodhran were travelling back home from a picnic at Head Panjnad when a speeding oil tanker rammed into their vehicle near Uch Sharif. The two vehicles caught fire. Aqil, the tanker driver, and Ghulam Mujtaba, a child, and another passenger in the van died on the spot.

Those injured were taken to Alipur THQ Hospital and Bahawal Victoria Hospital for treatment. Doctors later said most of those injured would survive but the condition of two of them was critical. In Multan, two people died in a collision between a van and a trailer near Gucharwali Bridge on Old Shujabad Road. Rescue-1122 Spokesperson Abdul Jabbar said the deceased had been identified as Imran, 23, and Mubashar, 24.
