A Pakistani S A Kazmi set up the petition “New Islamabad Airport be named as Edhi International Airport, Islamabad” almost a month ago on Change.Org when news media flashed reports about the serious nature of the ailment suffered by the great philanthropist.

However, it had only 50 supporters in the beginning. It got momentum after the demise of Edhi Friday night.

Within 24 hours, the petition received endorsements from 21,000 Pakistanis, while it is doing the rounds on social media with people asking each other to sign.

“Simply a case of merit, no one deserves more than Abdul Sattar Edhi after whom this airport be named… His services to the humanity are unmatchable,” the petitioner mentioned the reason behind his move.

The petition upon receiving significant number of signatures will be delivered to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for a decision.

AFAQ ALI SIDDIQUI | 7 years ago | Reply I dont know why the public propoerty being named on the name of our servants who are appointed by us as our servants (but they are only working in their vested intrest). Such all public propoerty should be named in the name of our national heroes who served the humanity, nation and won our hearts. In return we want to pay them tribute by naming all our public property in their name. We the nation and public has only the right to dedicate our public property in his name. Therefore I strongly support that Airport should be named as Edhi International airport. AFAQ ALI

Having understood that the only wisdom to be acquired is "the wisdom of humility", he lived and died in the embrace of humility. Therefore, let him be where he is, beyond you and me, with the Most Merciful, Most Compassionate already.
