According to the regulations, the municipal staff would adopt all related precautionary measures besides ensuring timely maintenance and proper supervision of water reservoirs and sewerage systems in their respective areas.
This was stated by the Local Government and Community Development Department (LG&CD) Punjab Director-General Shahid Nasir Raja, while addressing participants at the “Clean and Green Training Workshop”, aimed at capacity-building training session on “Water Supply and Sanitation Regulations and Anti Dengue Operations”, for officials of the department.
Adviser to the Punjab Chief Minister Dr Waseem Akram apprised participants about the current situation of dengue prevalence in the province and said that according to the predictions of the metrological department more rains were expected during monsoon.
He asked the tehsil municipal officers to remain vigilant in their areas and do their utmost to check dengue larvae, especially during rains so that it did not turn into an epidemic.
Dr Waseem was of the view that any untoward situation could emerge if proper measurers were not adopted to control dengue.
He also shared figures of previous years relating to dengue cases.
Speaking on the occasion, Raja said that the water supply and sanitation regulations would enable the community to get safe drinking water and all concerned had been given detailed guidelines to ensure regular monitoring of water reservoirs and any negligence would be penalised according to the law.
LG&CD Department Additional Secretary Malik Muhammad Waris asked officials of the department to work with devotion and dedication and serve the masses honestly.
He stressed that people could be saved from waterborne diseases by ensuring supply of germ-free drinking water and keeping sewerage lines leakage free.
The director of the department, Mian Najeeb Aslam said that special emphasis had been placed on training and capacity building of the LG&CD Department’s field staff so that they could maintain their water supply schemes and observe the defined protocol of desalting sewerage lines.
