Compensating loss: Bilawal gives Sabri’s family Rs10m cheque

Asks home minister to answer questions regarding progress on investigation

KARACHI: Chairperson of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, visited the residence of slain Qawwal Ajmad Sabri to offer his condolences to the victim's family. The PPP chief expressed grief and sorrow over Sabri's brutal killing and handed over a Rs10 million cheque as compensation to his family.

Bilawal, who was flanked by Sindh home minister Sohail Anwar Siyal, said, "I can feel the pain and sorrow of the victim's family as I belong to a family whose members have been martyred as well.  I have also lost my mother and will try my best to bring Sabri's culprits to book."

After the condolence meeting, when journalists asked the PPP chief regarding the progress on recent high-profile incidents of crime in the city, Bilawal said, "I don't want to respond," and directed the home minister to answer  the questions.



The minister, speaking to the media, said they would soon arrest those involved in the murder of Sabri, adding that "we have formed a joint investigation team comprising police, Rangers and intelligence officers to probe the case and very soon the issue will be resolved."

The PPP chairperson has also formed a three-member ministerial committee that will look into establishing the Shaheed Amjad Sabri Sufi Music and Qawwali Institute besides promoting Sufi teachings in educational institutes.

Bilawal issued these directives during a meeting with special assistant to the chief minister for culture, Sharmila Faruqi, who called on him at Bilawal House on Tuesday.

Senior minister for education Nisar Khuhro, religious affairs minister Dr Qayum Soomro and Faruqi will be among the members of the committee.
