Nisar terms recent terror in Karachi 'desperation of terrorists'
Security czar says overall law and order situation in Karachi has significantly improved
The country's security czar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to defeat terrorism with strong determination of the nation.
“People should not lose hope as terrorists are on the run. They have been cornered and are only aiming for soft targets,” Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said while addressing a press conference in Islamabad.
“Killing innocent people like Amjad Sabri and kidnapping Sindh Hhigh Court chief justice’s son indicate the desperation of terrorists,” he added.
Police claim headway in Sabri killing probe
The minister claimed that overall law and order situation in the metropolis had significantly improved which resulted in the dramatic reduction of the cases of extortion, terrorism, targeted killing and kidnapping for ransom.
“Our law enforcement agencies have rendered unmatched sacrifices to restore peace in the country. Our civilian and military intelligence agencies have been sharing intelligence information with the police of different provinces and we will continue to do so.”
Nisar lauded services of the electronic media in putting “a complete blackout on the voice of terrorists”, saying it is aiding the law enforcers in tackling terrorism in the country.
He urged the media to play an active role in supporting security agencies in the psychological warfare. Nisar, however, claimed that some elements on the social media are spreading rumours to cause distrust and anarchy among the people.
Terrorists going for softer targets to survive, says COAS
The minister said that 2,000 ex-servicemen will be recruited in Sindh police. “The army chief has assured to provide light arms to the police force to better fight terrorists. The army will also provide training facilities to the police force.”
Establishing federal crime database
The federal minister hinted at establishing a federal crime database to aid security institutions to tackle the menace of terrorism more effectively. “Work on the federal crime database will begin after Eid.”
Referring to the National Counter-Terrorism Authority (Nacta), Nisar said that a meeting of home departments and counter-terrorism departments would be convened to evolve an out of the box solution.
“We will seek an opinion from legal experts to give a legal cover to the Joint Investigation Teams.”
