CJP directs authorities to take effective measures for Ovais Shah's safe recovery

Abduction of SHC CJ's son has caused insecurity among judges and their families, says Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Anwar Zaheer Jamali has directed authities to make effective and concerted efforts to recover Sindh High Court Chief Justice's son Ovais Ali Shah.

Advocate Ovais was abducted from outside a supermarket in the upscale Clifton neighbourhood Monday noon, according to police.

The CJP held separate meetings with Chief Secretary and Home Secretary Sindh, Director General Pakistan Rangers, Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar, IGP and other officials of the operation and investigation wings of police, at Supreme Court Karachi Registry on Saturday.

Chief justice observed that the abduction had sent wrong message to the masses and caused disappointment and sense of insecurity among judges and their families.

Justice Jamali also directed chief secretary to employ all resources to ensure improvement in the law and order situation of Sindh in general and Karachi in particular.

Earlier, the CJP was apprised about the measures so far taken by Sindh government for the recovery of the abductee.

Just two days after Advocate Ovais' abduction, qawwali maestro Amjad Sabri was shot dead in Karachi while the whereabouts of the assailants still remain unknown.

ajaz | 8 years ago | Reply Suggest change the sleeping absent minded CM of Sindh and bring powerful strong effective and caring Pakistani from Sindh as the CM. If not please handover Sindh to Army for sometime to eradicate this life of terror and crime.

When | 8 years ago | Reply Pakistan is not safe, everyone should know that. Do not behave and act as though it is.Just make very sure that you take precautions where ever you go, and whatever you do. Do not show off, do not try to gain importance, show prominence. Every day that passes by we ask ourselves what is this country about, when a governor can get shot by his own bodyguard, his son kidnapped, a prime minister's son kidnapped, now a justice son kidnapped, so many hundreds of thousands of people killed in violence since Pakistan was created in 1947 for a homeland for the Muslims of the Sub-Continent. When will we have the courage to accept what has happened since 1947 thread bare, why are we so very scared of our own selves, our own history, our own people? when will we wake up?

Disgusting | 8 years ago | Reply His Lordship the Chief Justice of Pakistan is extremely upset and concerned. I wish he was equally concerned about the people of Pakistan who are victims of a cruel Judiciary. This abduction is to bargain for release of terrorists sentenced to death by Military Courts and confirmed by COAS but his Lordship has always upheld justice no matter the crime. Now let's us see what happens. Our superior judiciary has been acting more like ordinery politicians. This was started by Arsalan's father and is still continuing. Did Mr Chief Justice of Pakistan felt so concerned ever earlier?

Khan | 8 years ago | Reply After this kidnapping of son of Chief Justice Sindh now 90 % of Karachi Police will be deployed guarding Judges, Ministers Politicians, dignitaries and their families, General public will be left at the mercy of kidnappers, robbers and killers with no police available to defend them.

Iqbal Hadi Zaidi | 8 years ago | Reply It is really very heart breaking to know that people are abducted and or fired upon in broad day light at will in Karachi and when I being in Kuwait feel so terrified I can imagine what trauma people must be facing living in the city. None but son of Chief Justice of Sindh has been abducted and police is still clueless about the abductors. It reminds me of abduction of the sons of former Governor Punjab Taseer and that of former PM Gillani who are recovered after couple of years and I wish the barrister is recovered right now. However, there is a lesson for our judiciary that neither it should delay in punishing the criminals nor it should give less punishment otherwise the die hard criminals are not awed and they will continue playing with the laws of the land. Just imagine what a commoner faces when his child is abducted and he being an ordinary person cannot ask the authorities to form joint investigation team which is instituted in high profile case like this and hence the poor just curses none but his own fate.
