Imprisonment: Extortionist sentenced to 14 years

His alleged accomplices were given the benefit of doubt and acquitted

FAISALABAD:
An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday sentenced a convicted extortionist to seven years imprisonment on two counts and fined him Rs400,000.

Fateh Sher, a resident of Adda Shahaab Din, and his accomplices Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Riaz, Muhammad Saleem, Aurangzaib and Jahangir had extorted Rs200,000 from Zahoor Ahmad to transfer possession of land Ahmad had purchased from Sher.   Ahmad had initially refused to pay Sher and his accomplices the extortion money. On September 10, 2015, the men cornered him and beat him up for refusing to pay up.


Shorkot City police had registered a case against Sher and his five accomplices and had submitted a challan in a Faisalabad ATC. Judge Raja Parvaiz Akhtar sentenced Sher to 14 years imprisonment (seven years on two counts – Section 386 of the Pakistan Penal Code and Section 7 of Anti-Terrorism Act). He was also fined Rs200,000. In case of non-payment, Sher will have to stay imprisoned for one more year.

His alleged accomplices were given the benefit of doubt and acquitted.
