Pakistan and England to kick off Super 8s

BARBADOS:

Pakistan and England will be the two sides to kick off the Super Eights proceedings at 6 pm (PST) on Thursday.

The winning side will give its semi-final chances a big boost whereas the losing side may need to win both its remaining games to progress.

In the qualifiers for the Super 8s, Pakistan had more or less ensured their place with a win against Bangladesh in their opening match. They lost their next match to Australia, but Australia's victory over Bangladesh granted them a smooth sailing to the next stage.

England on the other hand have barely scraped through. They lost to the West Indies but beat Ireland on Duckworth Lewis system.

A good start from Pakistan openers will make the job a lot easier for the middle order. Umar Akmal and Mohammad Hafeez have not spent much time in the middle. Either one of them, if not both will do well to get going soon.

Mohammad Aamer has been one of the most impressive bowlers in the tournament so far along with Saeed Ajmal. Aamer bowled a superb maiden in the 20th over of the Australian innings where he picked up 3 wickets.

Afridi's form with the ball is a major concern. A lot was expected of him but so far he hasn't managed to pick up a single wicket and has gone for almost 9 runs an over.
