PESHAWAR:
Teachers have flayed the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar over their alleged failure to pay them for invigilating class five examinations in March.

Speaking to The Express Tribune on Saturday, a large number of teachers who invigilated the exams in various parts of the province accused the administration of using delaying tactics and refusing to clear their dues. One of the teachers said it had been over three months since the exams were held but little had been done to address their grievances.

“The authorities have been delaying our payments for a long time,” he said. Another teacher said proctors for the Secondary School Certificate examinations had already been paid. “The board managed to pay them, even though the exams were held in April,” he said. The teachers urged BISE to immediately pay them for the services they had rendered.

However, BISE Chairperson Muhammad Shafi Afridi told The Express Tribune all cheques have been prepared for these teachers. “We will send [the teachers] the cheques soon,” he said.

According to Afridi, the delay was a direct outcome of the new system of examinations introduced by the provincial government. “The whole process was new for [us],” he said.  The chairperson said all teachers would receive their payments as it is their right. “The SSC results will be announced on June 21,” he said. “All payments have already been distributed to invigilators.”
