LAHORE: Pensioners in Lahore, on Monday, blocked Grand Trunk road and staged a protest against difficulties in attaining their pensions.

Protesters gathered before Shalamar Garden and chanted slogans. They said that they get their pensions with a delay of several days and the banks have no proper sitting arrangements or water dispensing facilities.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Railways pensioners also staged a protest outside the branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) on Walton road for poor arrangements. They said that bank authorities have not given them their pension for the last four months.

Bank authorities said the Railways department has not sent money to the accounts of the pensioners as yet. They said that the demand was of Rs9 million this year while the Railways department only sent Rs1.4 million to the bank accounts.

They said that the accounts are empty now and they still have to pay 800 more pensioners.
