‘NAB official’ booked for defrauding man
Complainant says police told him to drop name of ‘NAB official’ from complaint
ISLAMABAD:
A man claiming to be a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) official, who was booked on fraud charges, got interim bail from a sessions court on Saturday.
NAB raids slowed development, claims Sindh minister
The Sabzi Mandi police had booked Imran Farooq and Abdur Raheem for allegedly depriving a man of his car after renting it in September last year.
Muhammad Aziz Khan, who ran a car rental business in I-10 Markaz, told the police that Farooq, who was an acquaintance of Khan, rented a car from him for two days on July 7 last year but did not return the vehicle.
A few weeks later, with the help of a tracker installed in the car, Khan found his car parked in Gulzar-e-Quaid Housing Colony. The security guard of the parking said a man named Abdur Raheem had parked the car there and that he would hand over the car to that person only.
Khan said he came to the police station and took a police party with him to take possession of the car. But when the police reached the spot, the car was gone. The security guard said that Raheem had taken the car and left his mobile phone number for Khan and the police.
Khan told The Express Tribune that when he and the police officials contacted Raheem, he first claimed to own the car but later threatened Khan.
“He told me that he worked at NAB and could lodge multiple FIRs against me overnight,” Khan said.
The police also dilly-dallied in taking action initially, and registered an FIR against the two suspects on September 10, 2015.
Promising to deliver: Sindh Police takes away major chunk yet again
Khan said police also tried to persuade him to drop Abdur Raheem’s name from the complaint.
He also said that police made no efforts to arrest either of the suspects.
Khan said the suspects gave him the car a few weeks ago with some parts changed and others missing. On June 11, Raheem obtained interim bail from the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge (East) Rakhshanda Shaheen for a week.
Sabzi Mandi SHO Mehboob Ahmed confirmed that the suspect worked at the NAB. Asked to comment on the issue, Raheem said he was busy and hung up.
