ISLAMABAD: The new emergency block at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) would be inaugurated this week, said the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Minister, Tariq Fazal Chaudhary, while presiding over a meeting on Monday to review monthly progress of public sector hospitals in the federal capital.

The new emergency block has been constructed in two-and-a-half-month through public donations worth Rs25 million.

The measure aims to ensure better treatment of victims of trauma, accidents and terrorism-related incidents.

According to Pims officials, around 8,000 to 9,000 patients visit the old emergency everyday making it difficult for doctors and paramedics to provide quality care to serious patients.

The 25-bed facility with a state-of-the-art machinery will filter out the walk-in patients who come to emergency with minor ailments.

The new emergency has been equipped with 11 ventilators, X-ray machines and other necessary facilities.

The minister said that efforts were under way to provide best health facilities to the public at government hospitals.
