Govt challenges SHC order lifting Ayyan’s travel bar

She was granted bail in July last year

ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has challenged the Sindh High Court’s order to remove the name of supermodel Ayyan Ali from the Exit Control List (ECL). The appeal has been filed by Interior Secretary Arif Ahmed Khan in the top court.

Ayyan was arrested in March last year on charges of money laundering after customs officials seized around $506,000 from her luggage at Islamabad airport before she could reportedly board a flight to Dubai.

She was granted bail in July last year.

She had approached the SHC to seek contempt of court proceedings against the interior ministry, Federal Investigation Agency and others for placing her name on the ECL, hours after it was deleted on an SHC order.

On March 7, the SHC turned down a memorandum of the interior ministry about restricting the model from travelling abroad and allowed her to do so.
