How and when did you get interested in jewellery?
As a little girl, I was always fond of dressing up, just like my mother. I used to watch her get ready for weddings and admire her jewellery. So I was always interested in it, but it was after I got married that I started collecting various pieces.
What are your favourite pieces of jewellery (precious or costume)?
This meena kari kundan heirloom that was passed on to me by my great-grandmother — lucky me. Craftsmen from the Mughal era were responsible for the intricate, detailed work. It’s a classic piece, which will always be close to my heart.
Is there any piece you are emotionally attached to and why?
This ruby guluband with jhumkas is another classic piece — it belonged to my grandmother. The mere fact that she wore it when she was young is reason enough for me to be attached to it.

Share a story with us about how you acquired one of your favourite pieces?
My mother’s very close friend always used to wear a beautiful guinea locket with an engraved picture of Queen Victoria. This piece always used to evoke, for me, the mesmerising Victorian Era. On my first wedding anniversary, my husband surprised me with this exquisite, dazzling piece of art, which just brought back those childhood memories and my wish to possess a similar piece. It’s the best surprise I’ve ever gotten!
Is there anything on your radar that you want to get
in the future?
Whatever catches my eye — I’m always on the lookout!
