KARACHI: A judicial magistrate remanded on Friday a suspect into police custody for a week in a case pertaining to the mysterious death of a woman.

Haleema was found dead in her flat in Delhi Colony on Tuesday while her five-year-old son was left at Edhi Centre by a man, named Rizwan Ayaz Khan, earlier this week. He had claimed that the child was found abandoned near Do Darya.

The police arrested Sonia, wife of Rizwan, on Thursday in connection with Haleema's murder.

Police search for ‘key suspect’ in Delhi Colony murder case

On Friday, the investigator produced Sonia before the District South judicial magistrate. The investigating officer requested the custody of the female suspect to arrest her husband who, according to the police, is the main suspect in the case.

On the other hand, the suspect informed the judge that she herself went to the police station where the law enforcers arrested her. Claiming innocence, Sonia said that she was unaware about the incident. She also requested the court allow her seven-year-old daughter to live with her in police custody.

Handing the suspect over to the police for one week for interrogation, the judge also allowed her to keep the child.

The Frere police had registered a case against the couple under Sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the brother of the deceased.
