Blasphemy Conviction: Man jailed for three years

The court also imposed Rs45,000 fine on the convict

RAWALPINDI:  

A magistrate on Wednesday handed down a three-year jail term to a man accused of using blasphemous language while referring to companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Magistrate Waqar Mansoor Baryar convicted Murawat Hussain for the remarks in question. The court also imposed Rs45,000 fine on the convict, non-payment of which would require serving an additional six months in jail. In 2012, Qari Awais filed a complaint with the Airport police stating that Hussain had made derogatory remarks in the presence of many witnesses.
