Cheques were distributed among residents who had provided land for the construction of an army cantonment in Swat.
General Officer Commanding (GOC) Major General Asif Ghafoor distributed the cheques at a ceremony held in Kanju, Swat on Saturday. The event was attended by a large number of people.
Speaking on the occasion, Ghafoor said the level of support provided by the public had enabled the Pakistan Army to root out militancy and restore stability in Swat.
“The people of Swat [have] played a critical role in ensuring peace in the valley,” he said.
According to the GOC, it is the duty of the citizens and army personnel to bring development to Swat.
He drew attention to the sacrifices rendered by army personnel and other law-enforcement agencies.
“Security forces will not [give up fighting terrorists],” he said. “They are committed to root out terrorism from the country.”
