KARACHI: The accountability courts' administrative judge discharged on Wednesday a National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officer of the corruption charges, observing that the evidence against him was insufficient.

The country's top anti-graft watchdog had arrested its own officer, Kamran Janweri, on Tuesday on charges of taking bribe from a government official, Mehboob Ali Zardari, while investigating a corruption case in Chachro town municipal administration.

According to a statement issued by NAB, Janweri was caught 'red handed' while taking two split air-conditioners estimated to cost between Rs125,000 and Rs150,000 from Zardari whose role 'was not culpable' in the case.

After hearing the arguments in the case, accountability judge Saad Qureshi ordered Janweri's release due to lack of evidence. Qureshi observed, however, that he may be arrested again if evidence surfaces in the future.
