Accountability: NAB arrests foreign ministry director

Shafqat Ali Cheema had been accused of taking frequent private tours with his family to Europe and USA in recent years

ISLAMABAD:
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested on Tuesday a director at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for having “assets beyond known source of income”.

Shafqat Ali Cheema had been accused of taking frequent private tours with his family to Europe and USA in recent years. He will be produced before an accountability court on Wednesday for getting 14 days physical remand.


Separately the NAB Rawalpindi recovered Rs8 million of Rs23.5 million from Ehteshamul Haq Malik, who had embezzled the money from the rehabilitation fund for the flood-affected people.

Malik misappropriated the funds after they were transferred to him to pay to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) for providing electricity to houses constructed for the flood-affected people.
