At least five factory workers die after inhaling toxic fumes in Karachi

At least five workers died while cleaning a chemical tank at a factory in Karachi's Korangi Industrial area, on Sunday, Express News reported.

According to reports, one of the factory workers is in critical condition.

The plastic and chemical factory is located in sector 24 of Korangi industrial area and was nonoperational for some time.

Eye witnesses revealed that a labourer became unconscious after he inhaled the gas that had gathered in the tank, followed by attempts from others to save him.

Meanwhile, emergency director Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Dr Seemin Jamali confirmed that bodies of five labourers had reached the medical facility.

Inhaling toxic gas: 12 labourers fall unconscious during work

Earlier on January 23, 12 workers fell unconscious after they inhaled poisonous gas emitting from a generator while working in Spira Dam area located in Sipah, Bara, Khyber Agency.

An official said that the gas had gathered in the tunnel owing to lack of oxygen and extreme fog in the surroundings.
