Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi on Friday paid a surprise visit to the workplaces of district education officers (DEOs), stated a handout issued on Saturday
“He noticed the Kohat DEO was absent, while his female counterpart had left for a meeting,” read the statement. According to the document, the law minster first paid a visit to Kohat DEO Roz Wali Khan who was not at his office. “Not even the deputy DEO was aware of the official’s whereabouts,” stated the document. “After half an hour, someone at the office said the officer was attending a meeting in Peshawar.”
The document added, “The minister was not satisfied and expressed his displeasure over the irresponsible attitude of the head of such an important department.” On the occasion, the minister checked the attendance and stock registers. He also inspected office furniture and ongoing renovation work at the office.
“Qureshi also voiced his reservations over the awarding of the furniture contract and recent postings and transfers of teachers,” read the handout. “The minister was informed by some reliable sources that there was alleged favouritism and nepotism in the process of approving furniture and renovation contracts.”
