MUZAFFARABAD:
The Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (SCAJK) on Wednesday rejected Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N)’s application to postpone Kashmir Council elections.
The petitioner, PML-N member AJK Legislative Assembly Barrister Iftikhar Gilani, appealed the apex court to issue directions to the election commission to hold the Kashmir Council polls after the 2016 general elections.
The three-member bench of AJKSC headed by Chief Justice Muhammad Azam, in its judgement, said that nobody can stop anyone from casting a vote.
The court further said that it is the responsibility of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission (AJKEC) to hold the Kashmir Council elections 30 days after any member of the council completes his or her five-year term.
The petition was previously filed before the high court, which turned it down.
