Lahore Eagles claim one-day cup
Paracha was named man of the match as Lahore bagged the Rs250,000 prize money.
Lahore Eagles won the One-Day National Cup Division II after they beat KRL by one wicket in the final. The match, which saw a host of individual brilliances, went down to the final ball with Usman Salahuddin and last-man Emmad Ali adding a match-winning 18 runs as Eagles overhauled the target of 282.
Opener Hamza Paracha led the chase with a superb century but his dismissal at the score of 200 sparked a collapse as Lahore lost seven wickets for 65 runs.
Salahuddin held one end, anchoring the innings with a well-made 56 off 63 deliveries, as Ali struck 11 off three balls to guide the team to victory. KRL’s tall fast-bowler Mohammad Irfan was almost the hero as he took five for 67 but it was the Eagles’ day.
Earlier, KRL owed their competitive total to Ali Naqvi, who played five Tests for Pakistan, and Bazid Khan. The pair put on 129 for the fourth wicket with Naqvi hitting his eighth one-day century. Khan made 62 while in an almost identical situation, Eagles’ bowler Saad Nasim finished with five for 55.
