ISLAMABAD:

Police have booked a man for thrashing his wife with help from his father, which caused the victim to miscarry. Samina Bibi lodged a complaint with the Khanna police on May 3 stating that her husband Yar Muhammad and father-in-law Kher Gul beat her, which caused her to miscarry.

Police have registered a case against the suspects for forcing the victim to miscarry under Section 338, which is a non-bailable offence. Police said the case was registered on court orders. No arrests have been made yet.

Sub-inspector Anees Akbar, who is investigation officer, claimed that the case was trumped up. He alleged that the complainant took medication to abort the pregnancy. “It is her second marriage ... and she does not even have a medical report from a government hospital. We know it’s a fake case,” he said. Akbar further claimed that the woman had also given conflicting accounts as to where the assault occurred.
