Human rights: Assembly passes bonded labour law
It added that everyone is free to work and no one can compel any person to work for him
KARACHI:
The assembly also passed the Sindh Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Bill 2015.
“It is necessary to make this law for the abolition of the bonded labour system and to prevent the economic and physical exploitation of the labour class in Sindh,” said education and parliamentary affairs minister Nisar Khuhro, giving a briefing on the aims and objectives of the law.
“All properties vested in a bonded labourer, which were under any mortgage, charge, or other encumbrance in connection with debt [will] stand free,” stated the bill. It added that everyone is free to work and no one can compel any person to work for him. If anyone is found doing so, then a strict punishment of more than two years will be given.
