FAISALABAD: Scores of employees of the Health Department gathered in front of the health EDO’s office on Wednesday and staged a demonstration demanding implementation of a service structure and raise in salaries. The protest has been going on for five days. The protesters have also demanded allowances and other benefits. Vaccinators’ Association general secretary Muhammad Imran said the chief minister had approved of a service structure for employees of the Health Department on November 24, 2011. “Those of us who have been protesting are being threatened with show cause notices,” he said. The protesters then threatened to boycott the polio vaccination drives and stop working at dispensaries if their demands were not acceded to. Akram Ali, a representative of the district coordination officer, came and spoke to the protesters. He said acting DCO Ejaz Khaliq Razzaqi had formed a committee of four members to probe the matter and submit a report to the DCO’s office by Monday.
