LDA to improve working of one-window cell to facilitate people

The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to spend more than Rs100 million to improve the infrastructure of LDA Avenue 1, The Express Tribune has learnt.
LDA Chief Engineer Israr Saeed said the authority would increase its presence at the site. “Tenders have been floated for construction of a new LDA building with an estimated cost of Rs60 million,” he said.

He said the authority also planned to upgrade and remodel the existing One Window Cell at LDA Avenue 1’s Community Centre with an estimated cost of Rs40 million. “It will help increase public facilitation. It will serve a number of people who currently have to visit the LDA Complex in MA Johar Town,” he said.
Saeed said that the location of the LDA Avenue 1 was attractive. “Most of the development work has been completed. However, the scheme could not be populated due to various reasons, including litigation. In the next nine months or so, the situation will change. Right now, people have to face great hassle at our One Window Cell. With the completion of the new building, things will improve,” he said.
Traffic woes: Funds earmarked for Canal Road expansion
Data available on the LDA website shows that 3,744 underdeveloped plots and 378 developed plots are subject of litigation. The scheme has been developed on 16,000 kanals. Development work, including electrification, provision of water supply and a sewerage system, construction of roads and other allied services have been completed in the cleared area. The authority has already started handing over possession to owners. So far, nearly three-fourths of the plots have been handed over to their owners.
