KARACHI: ‘I dare, I jump and I escape’ is probably a popular phrase among under-trial prisoners coming to the city courts, as two of them have emerged as failed executors of this expression in two consecutive days.

On Thursday, a suspected murderer, Hasan Abbas, followed his fellow inmate, Hashim’s, footsteps by jumping off a city courts building in an escape bid, only to break his legs.

Abbas jumped off the first floor of block F of the city courts moments before he was to be presented before an additional district and sessions in a murder case, courts’ lock-up incharge SI Khalid said.

Like his predecessor, he also only managed to injure himself, Khalid added, saying that the suspect, after having known that his escape plan failed, made excuses that he wanted to commit suicide.

“Who would try to kill himself by jumping from the first floor?” he chuckled, adding that the suspect was shifted to a hospital and then to the jail.
