Visiting PU: Journalism a sacred profession, says UoE VC
UoE VC said that abiding by journalistic codes could result in an honest depiction of the society
LAHORE:
University of Education (UoE) Vice Chancellor Rauf-i-Azam said on Thursday that journalism was a sacred profession. He said that journalists not only explored facts but also played an important role in eradicating social evils.
He was speaking during his visit to the Punjab University’s Institute of Communication Studies (ICS) and its radio station FM 104.6.
He said that media education and training on modern lines was of great importance.
Rauf-i-Azam visited the news studio, the audio video lab, the computer lab, the library and Hameed Nazami Hall. He said that abiding by journalistic codes could result in an honest depiction of the society. He said, “An extensive study is necessary for journalists and students”.
He said that sensitising the public about social issues was an important function of development journalism.
ICS Director Noshina Saleem briefed the vice chancellor about the department’s performance and academic and co-curricular activities.
Faculty members, including Waqar Malik, Bushra Hameed, Lubna Zaheer, Shabbir Sarwar and Amir Bajwa were also present on the occasion.
Saleem and Sarwar also interviewed the vice chancellor for FM 104.6.
