KARACHI:

A suspected drug peddler jumped from the second floor of a city court building on Wednesday in a bid to escape but only managed to fracture his legs.

The incident occurred in the F Block of the courts where the suspect, Hashim, was produced by Defence police who sought his remand in a narcotics case. The head muharrar of the Defence police station, Suhail Farooq, told The Express Tribune 'seven rods of charas' were seized from him. As the hand-cuffed suspect jumped, several policemen, his escorts and others present in court, rushed downstairs to get hold of him, a court staffer explained.

He was found lying on the ground, screaming in pain.

The suspect was shifted to Civil hospital from where he was taken to jail, Farooq said. A case of attempted escape has been registered against him at the City Courts police station.
