Ongoing operation: Two MQM men held in separate raids
Party’s Malir Town organiser reportedly nabbed by Rangers
KARACHI:
Two men belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were apprehended in separate raids by law enforcement agencies on Tuesday.
The party's Malir Town organiser and former sector in-charge Syed Nayyar Raza was reportedly arrested by the Rangers while Tahir Maluk alias Bengali, an alleged member of MQM's militant wing, was arrested by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD).
Raza is also said to be the party's candidate for the designated seat in Korangi District Central. His arrest was made during a raid conducted at his residence in Malir locality. The MQM worker was later shifted to an undisclosed location. Witnesses and family claimed that personnel in Rangers' fatigues raided the house and arrested him; however, the Rangers or any other law enforcement agency did not confirm the arrest.
Blame game: Rejecting ‘new party’ landing workers in jail, says MQM
Separately, the CTD of the Sindh police claimed to have arrested a member of the party's militant wing. CTD official SSP Naveed Khawaja said Bengali was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off on Rashid Minhas Road. Weapons were also recovered from his possession.
