Accused SHO escaped after arrest, suspended from service

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a police officer in a police station in Mirpurkhas district.

S*, daughter of Y*, was allegedly raped by Dighri police station SHO Aslam Jamali, who has been arrested after being nominated in the FIR besides being suspended from service. The woman is reportedly mentally challenged.

Satellite Town DSP Jan Muhammad Mugheri has been given inquiry of the incident by Mirpurkhas SSP Usman Ghani Siddiqi. He said that the implicated SHO asked police constable Abid Jatt to bring the girl, who belongs to Lahore but worked as domestic help in Mirpurkhas, to his office on Friday.

After sometime, Jamali called Jatt back to the office and told him to drop the girl at the bus station, giving Rs500 to Jatt for her travel expenses. The girl began to cry when they reached Muhammadi Chowk on way to the bus stop. When she started shouting, Jamali allegedly raped her.


The SSP, who himself took the woman's statement, told the local media that the SHO will face punishment according to the law if proven guilty. He added that a medical test to establish the sexual assault has been conducted and the police are awaiting the report.

Dr Ayesha Talpur of Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas, said the initial medical report will be issued within 24 hours of the test.

Meanwhile, on Saturday the arrested SHO reportedly escaped from the police station after which the SSP suspended the acting SHO Wazir Shar. Shar, an assistant sub inspector and a police constable have been booked for colluding in the escape.
