Potential for violence: Rangers DG directed to avert disturbances
Following report of potential violence during the by-polls, the police have taken strict measures to maintain security

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has urged Rangers DG Major General Bilal Akbar to ensure smooth and peaceful polling on NA-245 and PS-115 seats in Karachi where by-elections are being held on Thursday (today).
He was speaking at a meeting held at CM House on Wednesday. Sources privy to the development told The Express Tribune that the Rangers DG informed the CM of intelligence reports which suggested that some elements want to create a law and order situation during the by-polls.
"We want free and fair elections. Please take action if anyone wants to disturb the law and order," he directed the paramilitary force chief.
Police preparations
Following reports of potential violence during the by-polls, the police have taken strict measures to maintain security.
Sindh IG Allah Dino Khowaja, while presiding over a meeting at Central Police Office on Wednesday, said apart from the NA-245 and PS-115 constituencies, police will remain alert in the entire city during the day. Nearly 4,000 policemen will perform security duties at both constituencies. Police officials have been directed to take action against all aggressors irrespective of their status and political affiliation.
