KARACHI:

Law enforcement agencies have apprehended nearly a dozen workers of various political parties following pre-poll violence in the troubled Lines Area on Tuesday.

Lines Area has been experiencing violence ahead of the by-elections in PS-115 constituency on Thursday, where Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Muhajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi have fielded candidates.

Clashes between workers of both parties are being reported since the last couple of days. On Monday, workers of the two parties attacked each other in the locality.

Law enforcement agencies conducted an overnight operation against the workers involved in the violence. Jamshed Town police participated in the raids at both parties' workers residences. "We have apprehended nearly eleven workers from both sides for their involvement in pre-poll violence," said Brigade SHO Ghulam Nabi Afridi. The officer added that cases have been registered against them while further investigation is under way.
