Minister Visits KMC: Rs51m approved for toxicology lab

At least Rs51 million were approved for the purchase of equipment for toxicology laboratory of Khyber Medical College (KMC) Peshawar. The amount was approved by Minister for Health Shahram Tarakai during his visit to the institute, a handout issued on Saturday revealed. On the occasion, KMC Principal Professor Dr Ejaz Hassan Khan and Department of Forensic Medicine Incharge Professor Dr Hakim Khan Afridi briefed the health minister on the difficulties of the forensic medicine department. They informed him that during 2013, the department had performed 1,127 post-mortems, 1,201 in 2014 and 966 in 2015. They said the department had a significant workload but the doctors had to face difficulties in fulfilling their obligations due to the shortage of staff and equipment. The minister announced a special package for doctors who conduct post-mortems and for recruitment of staff in the DNA and toxicology laboratories of KMC.
