On March 14, unidentified armed men robbed a jewellery shop, 'Syed Jewelers', on Tariq Road, within the limits of Ferozabad police station. The men in masks held employees hostage and took away real and artificial jewellery.
The two suspects, identified as Fayyaz Bhutto and Abdul Wahid, were arrested during a raid at Gulistan-e-Jauhar. "So far we have recovered 3.25 kilogrammes of the looted gold," said District East police chief DIG Kamran Fazal while talking to the media during a press conference on Saturday.
Continuing threats: Jewellery shop owner shot, injured
After the incident, the robbers distributed the looted gold among themselves at a residential apartment in the Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The robbers were trained and did not leave a single clue behind, said DIG Fazal. However, the police finally traced two alleged robbers and arrested them.
CCTV footage also showed five to six men barging into the shop. There were reports that nearly 24kg of jewellery and gold worth Rs60 million was looted in the incident. The traders also protested the robbery and demanded the immediate arrests of the culprits.
Behind bars
Separately, Counter-Terrorism Department of the Sindh police claimed to have apprehended two target killers, affiliated with a political party. The suspects arrested were identified as Shafi Alam alias Ganja and Rehmatullah alias Don Jangi. They were arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off near Islam Chowk in Orangi Town. Arms and ammunitions were also seized from their possession.
"These men were considered a symbol of terror, particularly in Orangi Town," said CTD investigations SSP Naveed Khawaja. "Besides their involvement in more than two dozen cases of targeted killings along with their companions, they also confessed to be involved in riots on May 12, 2007, including the firing incident at Aaj TV."
