DI KHAN:

A prisoner attempted suicide but was rescued in DI Khan Central Prison on Friday.

According to a police official, prisoner Hafiz Sanaullah jumped into a blazing tandoor in the prison kitchen and tried to commit suicide. Other inmates present on the premises managed to save him.

“Sanaullah suffered burn injuries and was rushed to the prison hospital,” a police official told The Express Tribune. He believed the prisoner was suffering from depression and said none of Sanaullah’s family members visited since his incarceration.

DI Khan Central Prison Superintendent Banyameen Mian Khel registered an FIR against Sanaullah for attempting to commit suicide at DI Khan Cantt police station – the jurisdiction within which the prison is located.

Sanaullah belongs to Ajazabad in DI Khan and is currently in jail serving a 25-year sentence for killing his brother.
