1.3m kids to be vaccinated against polio in Faisalabad

As many as 791 teams will be on duty during the 3-day drive

The three-day anti-polio campaign started in Faisalabad on Monday.

Provincial Assembly Member (MPA) Madiha Rana inaugurated the drive by administering anti-polio drops to a child at Surayya Majeed Trust Hospital, Marzipura. Health Executive District Officer (EDO) Nawazish Ali was also present on the occasion.

The EDO said that 420 mobile and 371 stationery teams had been formed to vaccinate 1.3 million children of up to five years of age. He said that the district administration had devised a comprehensive strategy to meet the targets.

“We have been displaying banners, distributing pamphlets and making announcements asking people to ensure vaccination of their children. We are committed to reach out to every child during the campaign,” the EDO said.


Ali said that 289 medical officers and 482 assistant medical officers had been tasked with monitoring the performance of polio teams.

The Education Department has also asked 270 scouts to provide assistance to the Health Department during the drive.

A spokesman for the Education Department said Secondary Education District Officer Ali Ahmad Siyan had written to all school heads for the appointment of boy scouts for the purpose.

“Following the directive, school heads have appointed 270 scouts across the district,” he said. The spokesman said that 134 scouts would be helping 78 teams in the City tehsil, 16 scouts would work along with eight teams in Chak Jhumra tehsil, 22 scouts would assist 11 teams in Saddar tehsil, 18 scouts would provide assistance to 12 teams in Samundri tehsil, 30 scouts would work with 15 teams in Tandlianwala tehsil and 50 scouts would be on duty along with 25 teams in Jaranwala tehsil.
