A constable was arrested over abuse of power and accepting a bribe from a drug dealer on Saturday.
Police spokesman Amir Waheed said on Saturday that Razaabad police station house officer (SHO) Shahid Alvi had arrested a drug dealer a few days ago. He said Constable Hammad Ahmad of the same police station took a bribe of Rs300,000 and promised to get the drug dealer released from the narcotics case by sharing the amount with some senior police officials.
He said on receiving a complaint, the Razaabad SHO arrested Constable Hammad and registered a case against him. The spokesman said that strict action would be ensured against officials found abusing their powers and indulging in corrupt practices.
Separately, a police spokesman told newsmen that the district police has prepared a database containing information of all its 7,000 officials.
Police spokesman Amir Waheed said the record of all officials had been automated in a period of two weeks.
He said after verification it would be made avaialble online as well.
