PESHAWAR: Six police constables that had been provided for security to the three sons of late Haji Haleem Jan, traders’ leader who was killed by extortionists, have been suspended from their duties after they entered Dubai Hotel in Qissa Khwani and took possession of it by force.

The owner of the hotel, Khwaja Muhammad Shabir had lodged an FIR against them at Khan Raziq police station under sections 506-b/448/148/149 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Talking to The Express Tribune, a police official said, “After the murder of Haleem Jan, these police constables were provided to his sons for their own security as extortionists continued to threaten them.” He added they had been provided by East Cantt police station to protect their residence, but were used to take possession of a building at gunpoint and by force. “It is a criminal conduct and not acceptable,” he said, adding, all six constables were suspended and a further departmental enquiry was launched against them.

Furthermore, Haleem Jan’s three sons have been censured and warned to use police guards only for their own security rather than exploiting their expertise for illegal means. They were cautioned that if the guards were used for any other purposes, they will face legal action.

All three sons were also directed to restrict their movements and inform the police before leaving their respective police station’s jurisdiction for the sake of their own security.
