Substandard wheat: Four jailed in Charsadda

CHARSADDA:


At least four people were arrested when the anti-corruption department raided a food grain warehouse in Charsadda for selling substandard wheat.


At least 1,500 tonnes of wheat loaded on to a truck were seized and a sample was sent to food laboratory in the city.


According to a press release issued on Thursday, laboratory results revealed wheat purchased by Charsadda district food controller Muhammad Nawab and Charsadda assistant food controller Ali Asghar were substandard.


An FIR was registered against Nawab, Asghar, Charsadda food grain inspector Bashir Gul and warehouse clerk Maazullah under sections 409, 420 and 5(2) Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 and all four of them were arrested.
